Summary

This workshop consists of a technical and a regulatory session and was designed to present topics of interest to current and future wetland practitioners in Alberta.

The ASPB is pleased to present special guest Dr. Robert Pierce from the Wetland Training Institute. He brings over 35 years experience in wetland regulation, delineation, construction/restoration, and functional assessment. Dr. Pierce has prepared a customized three hour primer on wetland delineation for the workshop.

The afternoon session consists of several regulatory/policy presentations, such as:

  • Wetland Policy Update from Thorsten Hebben, AESRD, and
  • Wetland Compensation from Craig Bishop, Ducks Unlimited Canada
  • Water Act approval conditions for wetlands, Green Zone from Larry Kuchmak, AESRD

This year we are holding a one hour working session, in the late afternoon, designed to develop a list of potential qualifications/criteria for a Qualified Wetland Scientist. A summary of the resulting list of qualifications will be reviewed by the ASPB membership, the ASPB Wetland Steering Committee and the ASPB Board of Directors in the hopes of developing some guidance for our members and possible creation of a beneficial management practice guide in this area.

Registration includes lunch and refreshments.
