We are looking to hire 1 field supervisor and 2 field assistants for a collaborative UofA & Environment Canada study on the relationship between Ferruginous Hawks and petroleum development in Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Tasks: nest searching and monitoring; hawk observation, capture, and banding; attach GPS data-loggers to hawks; landowner communication; identify habitat characteristics

Qualifications: able to handle working and living in a rural prairie region; excellent note-taking skills (detailed and accurate); valid driver’s license with clean record; capable of driving long distances

Additional Assets: experience working with and handling birds; experience working/driving in the prairie region; experience driving 4WD trucks and quads; knowledge of Species At Risk Act; experience interacting with rural landowners

Pay rate: Field Supervisor: $2500 – $3000 CDN/month; Field Assistant: $1900 – $2300 CDN/month. Plus housing and food while in the field. Work period typically consists of a 10 days on / 4 days off rotation, this is flexible, but overall work period amounts to 22 days/month.

Work term and Location: some flexibility, but sometime between late-April and August (3 or 4 months). Fieldwork is in south-eastern Alberta and southern Saskatchewan
