General Duties:
Working directly with AECOM project managers, the successful applicant will conduct biophysical investigations and impact assessments, pre-disturbance assessments/conservation and reclamation plans, and related scopes of work for both. This position will also require project management skills and an understanding of the environmental assessment process.
Key roles for the position include:
Provide technical leadership in the fields of terrestrial ecology (vegetation and/or soils), including study design, application of field techniques, statistical analysis and report preparation;
Manage, participate and coordinate projects in a multidisciplinary environment;
Assist in the preparation of proposals, work plans and budgets;
Maintain effective communication with clients and staff;
Adhere to and enforce corporate and client health and safety protocols; and
Write technical reports.
Requirements:
Bachelors or Masters of Science in a related discipline (agriculture, environmental and/or natural sciences) from a recognized university, with major in Botany or Soil Science;
Minimum of 10+ years experience which must include some consulting experience;
Professional designation or eligibility for registration with Alberta Society of Professional Biologists and/or Alberta Institute of Agrologists;
Extensive experience with vegetation, soils and EA legislation in western Canada, including provincial and federal regulatory agencies (e.g., ERCB, NEB and CEAA);
Experience leading Environmental Assessments;
Understanding of forest and grassland ecology;
Botanical and vegetation inventory survey experience including taxonomy and species identification,with demonstrated experience in the application of Ecological Land Classification (ELC) principles;
Knowledge and use of soil survey procedures, Canadian System of Soil Classification, Manual for Describing Soils in the Field and;
Experience preparing technical reports such as Environmental Impact Assessments, Pre Disturbance Assessments and Conservation and Reclamation Plans; and
Possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ideally the candidate will have expertise in both the vegetation and soils disciplines; however, having expertise in both of these disciplines is not mandatory for candidates to apply on this position.
