The Athabasca Watershed Council is a multi-stakeholder not‐for‐profit society and operates using consensus-decision making. The Council’s primary task is to assess the health of and develop a management plan for the Athabasca watershed, as per the Provincial Government’s Water for Life strategy, with the goals of:
*Safe, secure drinking water,
*Reliable, quality water supplies for a sustainable economy, and
*Healthy aquatic ecosystems.

The Council also advises the Alberta Government, stakeholders and the public on effective water management practices and solutions to water issues, as well as priorities for water research in the Athabasca watershed.

The Executive Director plays an integral role in ensuring that stakeholder participation is meaningful and that diverse perspectives are heard and taken into account in order to reach solutions to water issues through consensus. The Executive Director provides leadership, direction and advice to ensure that Council processes and outcomes are consistent with the organization’s vision and mission and reflect the priorities of the Board.
