Biostatistician

BIOSTATISTICIAN

• General Description: Responsible for supporting fish biologists by providing statistical support to ensure appropriate data analyses; organize and analyze field collected data for freshwater and marine monitoring programs.

• Duties and Responsibilities
  â?¢ Support project managers by providing statistical consulting, including advice on study design, data collection, and sample size calculations
  â?¢ Perform database management
  â?¢ Perform statistical analyses for aquatic resource monitoring projects
  â?¢ Prepare documentation on statistical analyses and discussion of researched results
  â?¢ Other duties as assigned

• Competencies:
  â?¢ Research and analytical skills (data compilation and analysis)
  â?¢ Problem solving skills (analyze a case or situation and recommending solution(s))
  â?¢ Have excellent communication skills (verbal and written â?? technical or scientific writing)
  â?¢ Excellent computing skills with software packages such as Systat, Splus, and/or R and MS Office
  â?¢ Strong organizational and time management skills to work on a variety of projects
  â?¢ Experience in developing statistical models using data collected in the field

Education and/or Experience:
â?¢ Must have a B.Sc. or higher degree in statistics or biostatistics and appropriate qualifications for work in either Alberta or BC
â?¢ Minimum 3 years experience or combination of experience/education
â?¢ Have experience operating in a dynamic consulting environment that requires flexibility and teamwork
â?¢ Experience in statistical consulting for the environmental sciences, analyzing fisheries and water quality data, and field data collection is an asset
