Environmental Biologist
RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will work within the Biophysical group under the supervision of the lead biologist. Primary responsibility will be completion of fisheries and aquatic resources assessments on wide variety of projects, as delegated by the lead biologist. This will involve the following:

•Plan, conduct and manage fisheries and aquatic resources investigations;
•Support and conduct terrestrial biological studies where required;
•Plan, conduct and manage fisheries and aquatic resources investigations;
•Conduct environmental impact assessments;
•Prepare proposals, written reports and recommendations; and
•Prepare and obtain regulatory approvals for a wide variety of projects (i.e., transportation, Oilsands, pipelines, etc.).

REQUIREMENTS:

The position will require that the successful candidate has a solid technical and/or academic background in biological sciences. The successful candidate will also have relevant with technical or regulatory experience from the consulting industry. Experience within western Canada preferred. Key requirements include experience with some or all of the following:

•Fish inventory and aquatic habitat assessment techniques;
•Fish life history and habitat requirements, particularly Alberta fish species;
•Wetland delineation and classification;
•Familiarity with provincial (Alberta) and federal regulatory requirements pertaining to terrestrial and aquatic environments;
•Experience developing fish habitat compensation for DFO Fisheries Act Authorizations;
•Experience conducting terrestrial biological studies including large and small mammal, songbirds, amphibians, Species at Risk assessments, mitigation and monitoring plans, and habitat modeling is preferred;
•Able to work effectively as a member of a team, and also independently with minimal supervision and direction; and
•Able to demonstrate excellent writing and communication skills.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Key Qualifications for this position include:

•University Degree in Biology or Environmental Science, however applicants with technical diplomas may be considered.
•Either possess or be eligible for professional accreditation with the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists or the BC College of Applied Biology
•2-10 years experience, preferably in the consulting sector
•Experience within Western Canada preferred
