Integrated Geomatics Inc. has a permanent, full-time opportunity for an Intermediate Aquatic Biologist to join our growing environment team based out of Calgary, Edmonton, or Grande Prairie, Alberta. In this position, the successful applicant will complete a wide variety of pre-planning and environmental services with an emphasis on aquatic assessments, technical reporting, mitigation planning, and regulatory applications. The successful applicant will work in a hybrid capacity with an anticipated ratio of 70% fieldwork and 30% office work, however this may vary depending on seasonal fluctuations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct aquatic assessments to identify fish species, fish habitat, identify potential impacts, and classify watercourses.
  • Lead environmental teams in performing onsite water quality monitoring, fish rescues, fisheries assessments, watercourse crossing inspections, and other services as needed.
  • Contribute to the preparation of technical reports and regulatory applications to support provincial and federal requirements (e.g., aquatic assessments, Code of Practice notifications, DFO Requests for Reviews and Authorizations, fish habitat offset planning, etc.).
  • Support other biophysical field assessments and reporting including, but not limited to, those related to wetlands, wildlife, vegetation, and soils.

• Analyze and interpret field data and communicate findings clearly and concisely.

  • Demonstrate effective communication skills to liaise with clients, provide project updates and present recommendations.

Qualifications:

  • Must possess a bachelor’s degree or a technical diploma in biological sciences or a related field.
  • Must have a minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional experience.
  • Be knowledgeable with fish ID and habitat requirements in Alberta.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who have practical field experience as a Qualified Aquatic Environmental Specialists (QAES) and to those who hold a professional designation (e.g., RPF, P.Biol. P.Ag., or R.T.Biol.).
  • Working knowledge of environmental regulations/policies in Alberta (e.g., Water Act, Codes of Practices, Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act and Canada’s Fisheries Act).
  • Ability to conduct fieldwork in remote locations and be physically capable and competent to work in a variety of environmental conditions.
  • Availability to work flexible hours as project requirements dictate.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team and independently.
  • Proficiency in technical writing, problem-solving, and communication.
