The Opportunity

Based out of our Edmonton office the successful candidate will be working under the general supervision of management responsible for completing fieldwork and reporting for Watercourse, Wetland, and Wildlife projects within our growing Environmental / Regulatory division, focusing on oil and gas, municipal, infrastructure, and natural resource projects in Western Canada.

This is a permanent full-time position with project assignments located in Alberta and Saskatchewan.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct wildlife, wetland and aquatic assessments in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Liaising with on-site client representatives.
  • Analyze field data to develop management and mitigation recommendations.
  • Write clearly and concisely to convey environmental considerations and results to clients.
  • Develop regulatory applications and liaise between regulators and clients when necessary.
  • Work independently, often outside of office hours, to meet challenging deadlines and client requests.
  • Assist with other responsibilities as needed to contribute to the team's overall success.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biology, Land Reclamation, Forestry, or another applicable field at a recognized university or college.
  • Registered, or ability to register as a Professional Biologist or Agrologist (or associated technologist) in Alberta and/or Saskatchewan is preferred;
  • Experience with AER OneStop Land Use and Water Act Applications an asset;
  • Minimum of three years of related experience for Intermediate applicants;
  • Solid field identification and assessment skills, and a desire to continue to learn;
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Proficient GIS skills and experience using ArcMap, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, or QGIS and related data collection software.
  • Solid understanding of the industry and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to prioritize competing initiatives;
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and listening skills.
  • Good time management skills, the ability to work with minimal supervision and the ability to contribute to the project by being a team player.
  • Must be willing to travel and work remotely in a field setting away from headquarters. Must possess CSA approved Steel Toed Safety Boots
  • Must be physically capable of performing the manual labour duties required.
  • Experience in a consulting environment would be considered an asset.
  • Strong safety record and good driving skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver's License and must provide current drivers abstract when applying.

A requirement of working for Aurora is that you legally entitled to work in Canada without sponsorship (A copy of a valid work permit may be required).

To meet the physical demands required of some positions, candidates must be in good physical condition and willing to work in all weather conditions. Clearance on medical and drug and alcohol testing may be required.
