This is a permanent, full-time opportunity for the position of Senior Vegetation Ecologist, supporting our EDI Vegetation Practice Area team on various projects throughout western and northern Canada. In this position, you will provide discipline leadership and collaborate with a team of project managers and biologists to provide practical solutions to our clients.

The successful candidates will be responsible for:
- Providing senior technical advice, direction, and mentorship
- Designing and conducting ecological inventory, effects assessment and monitoring programs, including data analysis and technical report writing, as appropriate
- Leading the design, planning and implementation of field programs
- Developing regulatory applications and liaising between regulators and clients when necessary
- Completing senior technical review and Quality Assurance/Quality Control of vegetation and wetland mapping products and reports, and providing technical sign-off as required for wetland and vegetation deliverables
- Managing and coordinating projects, including budget compilation and tracking
- Collaborating with the EDI team to execute proposals, including cost estimates
- Supporting other staff/projects within EDI
- Participating proactively in EDI’s health and safety program
We are looking for someone with:
- Operational knowledge of provincial/territorial and federal regulatory requirements and processes
- A proven record in completing field work productively and safely
- Strong organizational, time management and interpersonal skills
- The ability to work in a dynamic, team-oriented environment
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
- Experience with project management and client liaison
- Willingness to travel for field work in remote locations and/or between offices
- Experience and interest in mentoring staff and providing support/ supervision
- Self-motivation and an ability to respond in a fast-paced environment
Job requirements include:
- A minimum of 10 years of related experience (or equivalent)
- BSc degree in biology or related discipline(s); MSc would be an asset
- Registration or eligibility for registration as RPBio, PBiol, RPF, or PAg
- Knowledge and experience of terrestrial ecology in western Canada, such as soil science, vegetation ecology and taxonomy (including listed species), Terrestrial Ecosystem Mapping and Ecological and Landscape Classification, wetland ecology, rangeland health, and/or reclamation
- Experience in a variety of sectors, including oil and gas, transportation, mining, renewable energy and/or urban development
- Class 5 driver’s licence

The typical compensation range for this position is from $69,000 – $146,000 annually; the compensation offered may vary
depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity.
