Due to continuing growth, we are seeking an Environmental Scientist with experience to join our team in our Edmonton, AB office. A remote office location will also be considered. Position Overview
In this position as an Environmental Scientist, you will be responsible for performing duties as a field representative, including instream construction monitoring; fish salvage and rescue; invasive weed surveys; wetland delineations; rare plant surveys; wildlife surveys; collecting field data and samples; monitoring construction sites, compiling data, and preparing reports.
Specifically, you will
• Conduct plant and wildlife surveys for habitat assessments, special-status species, and other project requirements.
• Conduct fish habitat assessments and fish salvage activities.
• Conduct wetland delineations, jurisdictional determinations, and other aquatic resource surveys using current agency protocols, regionally specific methods, and other guidance.
• Provide biological monitoring and oversight for construction projects, restoration and reclamation implementation and maintenance.
• Research regional specific natural resources, survey requirements, and reporting needs.
• Prepare reports documenting field investigations and analytical results.
• Complete provincial loadform data submission for wildlife and fish survey inventories.
Qualifications Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Wildlife, Botany, Ecology, Environmental Science, Reclamation, or a closely related field.
• A minimum 2 years of biological experience working in the Canadian natural resource sector.
• Ability to obtain your professional designation in Alberta or British Columbia as a professional Biologist (P.Biol or RPBio)
• Knowledge of environmental policy and regulations and how they apply to industrial development activities in western Canada, including AER and AEP.
• Field experience with ability to travel to job sites in remote locations including shift work which may include evenings and/or weekends.
• The ability to work long days in a field setting (12hrs)
• The ability to summarize and interpret collected fisheries, wildlife, and vegetation data.
• Has the willingness to work closely with client, and Aboriginal partners
• Work outside in adverse weather conditions
• Proficient in backcountry navigation along with the ability to drive safely on forest service roads.
• Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail; Excellent communication and technical writing skills, and
• A strong work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to learn
• Must have a valid class 5 driver’s license (driving abstract required)
• Participate in and adhere to, corporate and client safety program
