The City of Edmonton selected Marigold Infrastructure Partners to design and build the 14-kilometer Valley Line West LRT project from downtown to Lewis Farms. Construction has begun and will take five to six years to complete. Marigold is a design-build joint venture agreement between Colas Canada and Parsons Inc.

Summary: The Environmental Monitor is responsible for the monitoring and implementation of the project
environmental plan at both the field and documentary level, performing audits, ensuring compliance and
making recommendations as necessary. They may also assist with regulatory permits and reporting as
required by project needs and in the training of personnel in the respectful stewardship of completing the
construction project with minimal impact on wildlife and biology.

Responsibilities:
• Implementing the Project Environmental Management System (EMS) and Environmental Plans
• Developing and implementing environmental monitoring and inspection programs to ensure
compliance with EMS, Environmental Plans, and other Project Environmental Obligations
• Maintaining the EMS and Environmental Plans
• Developing and maintaining various Environmental Registers required for the Project
• Monitoring and maintaining updates for amendments to applicable laws or Environmental Permits;
the ISO 14001 standard for environmental management systems; and new policies or standards
implemented by the City of Edmonton with respect to environmental protection
• Implementing the environmental auditing program
• Ensuring that the results of all monitoring, inspection, and audits are reported as required
• Stopping Project Work if any environmental monitoring, inspection, or audit indicates that the
Project Work does not comply with the Project's Environmental Obligations
• Developing and implementing environmental processes and procedures to ensure compliance of
Project activities with the Project Environmental Obligations
• Critically assessing environmental conditions in the field to evaluate potential environmental
impacts from construction
• Evaluating potential environmental issues and concerns ahead of construction activities
• Recommending best practices and mitigation measures to manage environmental concerns during
construction
• Resolving environmental non-conformances and non-compliances
• Compiling and analyzing environmental data for report input
• Preparing daily and weekly inspection reports
• Attending various project meetings as required
• Conducting environmental risk assessments
• Preparing environmental training materials and conducting environmental training
• Participating in various construction meetings (e.g., kick-off, toolbox, tailgate)
• Communicating and coordinating with Construction personnel and contractors on a regular basis
• Responding to and investigating environmental incidents
• Conducting environmental sampling
• Maintaining environmental equipment as required
• Performing work outdoors in all types of weather, and in an office as required
• Performing other duties associated with this position as may be required

Requirements:
• B.Sc. or technical diploma in biology, forestry, agriculture, environmental science, or related similar
discipline
• Registered or eligible to be registered in a related professional association in Alberta (e.g. Alberta
Society of Professional Biologists, Alberta Institute of Agrologists, Eco Canada), or certified as a
Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control by the Erosion and Sediment Control
Association of Canada; and
• Two years’ experience in construction monitoring and environmental compliance.
• Current knowledge of Alberta environmental laws, regulations, policies, and permitting requirements
• Current knowledge of the City of Edmonton's environmental policies
• Current knowledge of ISO 14001:2015 standard for environmental management systems
• Detail oriented with solid organizational and time-management skills
• Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
• Flexible on work schedule and ability to work days or nights in accordance with construction
activities
• Ability to calibrate, maintain and organize monitoring equipment
