Aquatics Field Manager

Jacobs is currently seeking an Aquatics Field Manager, to join our dynamic team in western Canada for a year contract position. This position provides technical leadership and support on the aquatic biology components of our projects, as well as coordination and mentorship to our team of biologists. This position is based out of one of our western Canada offices (Calgary, Vancouver, Victoria); however, alternate locations may be considered based on the individual applicant. 

The successful candidate will join our Environmental Planning and Permitting Practice and will work as part of multi-disciplinary project teams to contribute to the environmental planning and permitting and efforts of government and privately-owned infrastructure projects as providing technical support for the duration of construction of those projects. On projects, the successful candidate will support the execution of the work, including construction support data collection efforts and methods, development of standard operating procedures and regulatory compliance documents. 

This role will be largely field-based but the candidate may also be called upon to support with office-based activities, liaise with clients, regulatory authorities, stakeholders, and Indigenous communities on the work. This is a science-based role, and the successful candidate will have a strong reputation in the industry as a technical expert, and a proven ability to defend the technical rigor of the work completed. Qualifications:
• Diploma, B.Sc. or M.Sc degree in fish or aquatic-related studies with a minimum of 5 years of directly relevant experience conducting and managing aquatic studies (such as fish salvage and water quality monitoring); 
• Hold or be eligible for Professional Designation under the BC College of Applied Biology and/or the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists;  
• Must have driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract;
• Previous experience conducting aquatics field work, leading and/or managing aquatic crews in remote settings and/or in construction settings
• Previous experience communicating with clients, construction managers, construction Environmental Inspectors;
• Previous experience coordinating multiple field crews, demonstrating positive health and safety culture and proactively communicating between field crews and office leads
• Previous experience completing daily reporting and forecasting field work needs as they relate to construction support;
• Willingness to work based on a field rotation schedule and performing field work hand offs with rotation replacement
• Relevant oil and gas and regulatory experience; 

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience: 
• Experience with overseeing aquatics biology components of environmental construction support;
• Preference will be given to candidates with previous consulting experience;  
• Preference will be given to candidates with experience working in construction support; 
• Working knowledge of the federal Fisheries Act, British Columbia’s Water Sustainability Act and other relevant provincial and federal environmental legislation in western Canada; 
• Strong time management skills, with the ability to simultaneously work on multiple tasks/projects and meet project deadlines; 
• Experience in client liaison and team leadership; and 
• Positive attitude, self-motivated with strong initiative.
