Authenticating Professional (AP) – Wetland Support Role (Contract)

We are seeking an Authenticating Professional (AP) to provide technical oversight, mentorship, and professional assurance for a registered professional progressing toward Wetland Assessor / Authenticating Wetland Professional status under the Alberta Wetland Policy. This role offers flexible project-based engagement and the opportunity to support the development of a fully competent wetland practitioner while contributing your expertise to high-quality wetland science and regulatory submissions.

Core Responsibilities
The AP will provide technical review, mentorship, and authentication across the following areas:
1. Field Oversight & Boundary Review
• Review and validate delineation boundaries based on vegetation, soils, and hydrology indicators.
• Provide field feedback when needed (remote or onsite).
• Confirm alignment with AWCS and Alberta Wetland Policy expectations.
2. Classification & Functional Assessment (ABWRET) Support
• Reviewing AWCS class and form designations.
• Providing QA/QC on ABWRET A/B inputs and scoring.
• Guiding rationale writing and value interpretation.
3. WAIR Review, Impact Analysis & Regulatory Assurance
• Reviewing WAIR components (classification, impact pathways, mitigation hierarchy).
• Providing professional authentication as required.
• Offering regulatory insight for Water Act submissions.
• Supporting preparation for regulator interactions.
4. Replacement Design, Restoration & Monitoring Oversight
• Replacement concepts and hydrologic/vegetation design rationale.
• Monitoring plan development and post-construction evaluation.
• Validation and verification deliverables.
5. Professional Practice, Ethics & Competency Verification
• Providing QA/QC support and professional accountability.
• Confirming competency progression.
• Supplying the required recommendation letter once the registered professional meets all standards.


Time Commitment
This role is designed to be flexible and scalable. Typical involvement includes:
• Periodic review of delineations, WAIRs, ABWRETs, and monitoring reports.
• Competency check-ins.
• Authentication of applicable submissions.
• Occasional participation in field review or meetings (optional and as needed).


Ideal AP Qualifications
We are seeking:
• A professional with AP credentials recognized under the Alberta Wetland Policy.
• Demonstrated experience in wetland delineation, classification, ABWRET, WAIR preparation, and/or replacement design.
• Strong commitment to professional assurance, accuracy, and policy alignment.
• An interest in mentoring and supporting the development of another professional’s wetland competency.
