The theme for the 2019 Alberta Society of Professional Biologists’ (ASPB) conference, “Connecting Biologists to their Resources” will explore a variety of resources accessible to biologists. The content of the conference will support the practicing professional through presentations and workshops focused on (but not limited to) the following areas:
The 2019 Conference Committee welcomes presentation abstract submissions from a diverse range of interested applicants. Target audiences include representatives from government, Indigenous communities, industry, consulting, environmental advocacy groups, and academia.
The Conference Committee is offering the option of presenting an oral presentation of around 25 minutes or a poster presentation during the poster and networking session the afternoon of November 20, 2019. Presenters of the selected presentations enjoy a 50% discount on Conference Registration (1 per presentation.)
Authors and presenters may hail from a range of sectors and disciplines intersecting or supporting the practice of biology. The Committee will assess abstracts according to their relevance to the Conference theme. Acceptance will be based on the originality of the work, development of the conference topic, relevance to practice of biology, and overall submission quality. Based on submission of topics, a panel discussion may be a great forum to further explore complementary discussion topics.
An abstract for both forms of presentation must follow the format outlined below and be submitted electronically to firstname.lastname@example.org by August 1, 2019 for review. Please reference ‘ASPB 2019 Conference Abstract Submission’ and what type of presentation (oral or poster) in the subject line. Within the abstract, indicated your presentation type and please explain how the proposed presentation will complement the conference topic. If you do not receive email confirmation that your submission was received within 5 business days, please contact the ASPB directly at (403) 264-1273. Please note that the cost of preparing the proposal and attending the conference will be at the applicant’s expense.
Title: Capitalize the first letter of each word except prepositions, articles, and species names. Species names should be spelled out at the first use. Italicize scientific names of organisms.
Authors: Authors’ names will appear in ALL CAPITAL letters, using first initial(s) and full last name.
Affiliations: Each author should be listed by institution, department, division, and country. Please state if the author(s) are Professional Biologists (P.Biol. or R.P.Bio.)
Abstract Text: Abstracts should be submitted as Microsoft Word documents. Each abstract may contain a maximum of 300 words including title, author’s name(s) and affiliations, and the abstract text. Use 12 point Arial font for text and symbol font for special and scientific characters.
