About the Position

Pintail is looking for an Environmental Consultant to join our team. The position is Alberta-based and will be a mix of field and office-based work (home office) This position can either be a contract or full-time position.

The duties of the successful candidate will include, but may not be limited to:

  • Overseeing and conducting biophysical assessments (e.g., wetlands, rare plants, native grassland, detailed site assessments, fisheries, wildlife surveys, etc.) for varying project types.
  • Working on and providing technical review and sign-off on a variety of reports and regulatory applications to satisfy different industries and regulatory requirements.
  • Undertake and assist with the preparation and submission of different environmental regulatory applications (e.g., AER, AEPA, Water Act, Public Lands Act, ECCC, DFO, etc.).
  • Assist with proposals and cost estimates.
  • Assist with business development initiatives and managing client portfolios.
  • Assist in growing and expanding the company’s capacity and services to help our existing clients and to develop new relationships.
  • Lead and coordinate other team members and mentor junior staff.
  • Uphold safety procedures and practices of Pintail and Pintail’s clients.

Preferred Qualifications

The qualifications and skills of the successful candidate will include, but may not be limited to:

  • A university degree or college diploma in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Sciences, or related subject.
  • A minimum of 7 years of previous consulting experience in Alberta.
  • Professional designation (e.g., P.Biol., etc.).
  • Knowledge of and experience with provincial and federal environmental regulations.
  • Experience with the Alberta Wetland Policy requirements.
  • Technical knowledge in conducting different biophysical assessments (e.g., wetlands, rare plants, general vegetation, weeds, native grassland, detailed site assessments, aquatics, etc.) throughout Alberta.
  • Knowledgeable about plant species found in Alberta and western Canada.
  • Experience with conducting post-construction monitoring of wetlands, vegetation communities, etc.
  • Familiar with ArcPro / Arc Online, Field Maps App and Survey 1-2-3.
  • Ability to be an adaptive and strategic thinker.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Willingness to work weekends as needed during the field season.
  • Capable of undertaking strenuous field work through varying terrain.
  • Proven ability to work as a team but also independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Be self-motivated with a strong work ethic.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and collaborative working style.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and own transportation.

Asset Experience

  • Experience in Saskatchewan, British Columbia, or other jurisdictions would be an asset.
  • Up to date safety tickets (e.g., Standard First Aid, H2S, Ground Disturbance Level II, WHIMS 2015, TDG, Bear Safety, etc.) would be a great asset.
  • Experience operating UTVs, ATVs, Argos and towing a trailer.
  • Experience with the regulatory environment related to oil and gas, renewable energy, municipalities, land development, and transportation industries would be an asset.
  • Experience conducting fish habitat assessments would be an asset.
  • Experience with the regulatory requirements for borrow pits/reservoirs would be an asset.
  • Experience with preparing and reviewing Environmental Construction Operations (ECO) Plans would be an asset.
  • Construction monitoring experience would be an asset (e.g., water quality, etc.).
