Intermediate Environmental Monitor– Contract
Bear Tracks Environmental Services (2015) Ltd. is seeking a contract environmental monitor to join our team.
This is a field-based role operating across western Canada and will support a variety of active construction and resource development projects.
You would be responsible for providing on-site environmental oversight during resource exploration activities and during construction of infrastructure development projects to ensure compliance with project-specific environmental requirements, regulatory conditions, and best management practices.
Work is field based across Alberta and Saskatchewan and will include remote and industrial project sites. Conditions can vary significantly depending on project type and location.
This role requires ability to work independently, strong situational awareness, sound judgement, and the ability to communicate effectively with both field crews and project supervisors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide environmental monitoring and compliance oversight during construction activities
- Conduct daily field inspections and document environmental conditions
- Identify and report potential environmental risks or non-compliance issues
- Communicate clearly with contractors, supervisors, and project managers on site
- Ensure adherence to environmental permits, approvals, and mitigation measures
- Maintain accurate field notes, logs, and reporting documentation
- Support implementation of environmental protection measures (e.g., erosion control, wildlife mitigation, sediment management)
- Work independently in the field while maintaining strong communication with project teams
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Post-secondary education in environmental science, biology, ecology, or related field
- 2+ years field experience in environmental monitoring, construction oversight, or related work (preferred)
- Strong understanding of environmental regulations and compliance frameworks
- Ability to work independently in active construction environments
- Strong observational, documentation, and communication skills
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions and variable terrain
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence
Assets
- Previous Environmental Monitor training
- Experience in oil & gas, mining, utilities, or linear construction projects
- Wildlife or vegetation identification skills
- Erosion and sediment control experience
- H2S Alive, TDG, ATV safe rider, and First Aid training are required. If you do not have this training currently, we can work with the successful candidate to obtain these certifications.

This position is an hourly contract, with an anticipated start date in August 2026. Work is assigned based on project needs and duration. The anticipated schedule for this position is two weeks on, two weeks off rotation.
