Are you a recent graduate interested in gaining valuable experience or exploring a career in environmental consulting? We are currently seeking an Environmental Technician for a casual (as/when needed) or seasonal position based in our Calgary office. This role will support various projects throughout Alberta, including post-construction wildlife monitoring for wind and solar projects.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Conducting post-construction wildlife monitoring surveys for wind and solar projects
  • Conducting/assisting with data entry, analysis and technical reporting
  • Supporting other staff/projects within EDI, where appropriate
  • Working effectively in a team environment to meet goals of the project productively and safely

We are looking for someone with:

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and time management skills
  • The capacity to work independently in a dynamic environment
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, coupled with enthusiasm for continual improvement
  • Willingness to travel for field work in remote locations for extended periods (e.g., two weeks), walk long distances and operate OHVs under a variety of weather conditions

Job requirements include:

  • Completed or enrolled in a technical diploma, BSc or MSc degree program in biology, environmental science or related discipline(s)
  • Class 5 driver’s licence
  • Previous experience through employment, co-op work term or field courses in any of the following would be an asset:
    • Avian identification, including supporting breeding bird surveys
    • Wildlife surveys and habitat assessments
    • Fish and fish habitat assessments
