Join the Genetics and Tree Improvement Unit as a Genetics & Tree Improvement Technologist, where you'll play a pivotal role in supporting provincial reforestation and forest conservation efforts.
In this leadership position, you'll oversee critical reforestation seed programs, manage provincial tree improvement and genetics assets, and coordinate operational initiatives across Alberta. You'll lead a dedicated team, support innovative genetic resource management programs, and help ensure the long-term sustainability of Alberta's forests.

What You'll Bring
Education & Experience
You have either:
A university degree in Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Sciences, Biology, Agriculture, or a related field, plus a minimum of 2 years of directly related experience;
OR
- A two-year diploma in Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Sciences, Biology, Agriculture, or a related field, plus a minimum of 4 years of directly related experience.
- Equivalent combinations of directly related education and experience will be considered.
Special Requirements
- Valid, unrestricted Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or equivalent Canadian licence)
- A 3-year Driver's Abstract with seven (7) demerits or fewer
- Ability to work at heights, including ladders and aerial platforms
Preferred Assets
- We're particularly interested in candidates with experience or knowledge in:
- Reforestation seed programs, seed inventory management, or nursery operations
- Alberta Forest Genetic Resource Management and Conservation Standards (FGRMS)
- Genetic trial management, tree improvement assets, or forest genetics programs
- Information management systems such as SIMS, ARIS, or comparable enterprise databases
- Operational budgeting, contract management, equipment oversight, or site operations
- Professional registration eligibility with AAFMP, ASPB, or an equivalent organization
- Chainsaw certification
- Training or certification in project management, supervision, health and safety, or wildfire operations
