Basin Environmental Ltd. is an environmental consulting company based out of Sherwood Park and Calgary, Alberta. Basin offers environmental consulting services to a diverse client base including oil and gas, transportation, renewable energy, land development, real-estate, agriculture, and telecommunication groups.

Currently, Basin has an immediate opening for the following position: Senior Environmental Scientist/Project Manager. This remote based role is positioned in the Edmonton/Sherwood Park area.

Under the general supervision of the team lead and senior corporate management, this position is responsible for completing senior level technical support and project management with various projects throughout western Canada. This role will ensure high quality project work and approaches for Pre-Construction Site Assessments, Phase 1 and 2 Environmental Site Assessments, Soil and Groundwater Monitoring, Remedial Actions, and/or Reclamation Soil and Vegetation Assessments are utilized. This position will also support the development and expansion of our Environmental Site Assessment, Reclamation, and Remediation discipline.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage/coordinate clients, subcontractors, and staff
  • Maintain and develop client and subcontractor relationships
  • Mentor and train junior and intermediate staff
  • Execute budget development and tracking
  • Prepare and review technical reports
  • Work in a team environment with other disciplines
  • Conducting and supporting business development efforts
  • Participation in Basin’s health and safety program

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in an environmental science related discipline (i.e., agriculture, biology, geography, earth sciences, or another related discipline). A graduate degree (M.Sc.) in a relevant discipline would be an asset.  
  • Professional designation or professional affiliation with the Alberta Institute of Agrologists (AIA), Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA), Alberta Society of Professional Biologists (ASPB), Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET), or relevant organization.
  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant work-related experience in the environmental industry.
  • Thorough understanding of Alberta reclamation and remediation guidelines. Experience with other jurisdiction guidelines (i.e., federal, British Columbia, and/or Saskatchewan) are an asset.
  • Experience with contaminated sites risk management (i.e., Tier 2, Subsoil Salinity Tool) is an asset.
  • Strong data analysis and technical reporting skills.
  • Strong communication and scientific writing skills.
  • A valid driver's licence and clean driving record is required.
