Summary
Accurate fish species identification is of critical importance in fisheries biology. In this introductory course, students will learn key morphological identification characteristics, provincial range, and habitat preferences of Alberta fish species. This workshop offers a range of knowledge from junior to senior level fisheries personnel.

Summary
In this introductory course, students will learn key morphological identification characteristics, provincial range, and habitat preferences of Alberta fish species. The course also provides an opportunity to observe and handle real preserved specimens to learn the key identification features of different species.
Topics could include:
- Key morphological characteristics and fish anatomy
- Provincial range and habitat preferences
- Fish collection, handling, photography and preservation techniques
- Fish Research Licenses for fish sampling and the use of the provincial online fisheries database
Presenter Biography
Shona is a graduate of the NAIT- Renewable Resources and University of Alberta - Conservation Biology programs. She has provided field knowledge and educational teaching over the past 12 years. With the help of many consultants, Alberta Environment and Parks, Universities, Trout Unlimited Canada and friends, this fish identification workshop has provided great interest throughout the fisheries community.
