Summary

Join us for this 1/2 day guided walk in one of Calgary's parks to discover the edible and medicinal plants that grow there. Many plant species are edible greens, as are roots, seeds, and parts of trees. Most plant, shrub and tree species, in some part of the organism, contain many vitamins, minerals and nutrients that aid in the overall health of our body functions and nutrition.

Through books, the Nakoda Sioux, herbalists and her own research, Julie has been working with edible and medicinal plants for over a dozen years. She looks forward to sharing this knowledge with all of you!

Presenters Biography

This Edible and Medicinal plant talk will be given by Julie Walker, owner of Full Circle Adventures.

Julie is an Interpretive Guides Association (IGA) certified professional hiking guide and nature educator. She has interpreted nature to elders, kids and adults in Southern Alberta for more than 25 years. Julie has explored the plants of the Prairie, Foothills, Montane, Sub-Alpine and Alpine eco-regions. Sharing her knowledge about this flora, especially the edible plants, has become her passion. She has worked with the SAIT culinary school, Alberta Culinary and Tourism Association, Rouge restaurant, River Cafe, the Light Cellar and more.

Julie has a high conservation and cultural ethic. Her big goal is to inspire everyday people to preserve our intact wildlands for their food and medicine values. By learning about the edible understory and how to cook with them and re-wild our gardens, we can have a better balance of health and wealth while playing a part in re-balancing nature, right in our backyards!
