Summary

Regulatory compliance is generally defined as an organization's adherence to laws, regulations, guidelines and specifications relevant to its business as required by the regulatory bodies: Federal, Provincial, Municipal and Industry Best Management Practices (BMP). Non conformance or violations of regulatory compliance regulations often result in legal punishment and bad reputation in the community.

Regulatory compliance is not just about playing defence. It also offers an opportunity to consistently strengthen your organisation through strategic, proactive measures—such as best practices, employee training, internal controls, and benchmarking appropriate for your industry and size. 

The objectives of this presentation are as follows:

  • understand regulatory compliance;
  • understand the various regulatory requirements in Canada;
  • understand how to put in place a compliance management structure for their organisations (processes and software’s etc);
  • reinforce your organisations commitment to regulatory compliance;
  • meet and comply with all regulatory approvals and permits;
  • attain consistency in internal and external regulatory reporting systems;
  • know how establish effective procedures for reporting; and
  • evaluating/investigating incidents and non‑conformance to prevent further occurrences

Presenter Biography 

Mr. Victor Ladipo has over 16 years of working experience in Aquatic Sciences, Environmental management systems, Safety, Regulatory compliance, Permitting, Air Quality and auditing.  His primary focus has been in regulatory compliance, auditing and safety management systems. 

Mr. Ladipo has successfully developed and implemented a regulatory compliance management systems and permit applications for a variety of sectors.  He has been a project manager for air emissions programs from the small field sites to large corporations.  He has been on an advisory board to create new legislation for air emissions management.  He has also been a key player on teams for larger and more comprehensive regulatory audits. 

His technical expertise includes environment program development and implementation, greenhouse gas assessments and quantifications, environmental and management system audits, Safety COR audits, Environmental monitoring, regulatory compliance reporting and permit applications. His sector experience includes oil & gas, heavy oil, pipelines, power generation, watershed management, and food processing.

Mr. Ladipo has:

  • Built a regulatory compliance systems from scratch
  • Implemented and audited environment and safety programs including ISO, COR Safety and waste management;
  • Created fisheries baseline inventories;
  • Developed environmental system manuals;
  • Developed project compliance procedures and plans:
  • Carried out compliance audits to track environmental and regulatory performance;
  • Managed and performed emission calculations and reporting for federal reporting including GHG, NPRI, CMP;
  • Provided regulatory support to operations for all compliance matters, including regulatory approvals, waste management, permitting, and DFO, OGC and AER directives
