On Saturday, May 28, 2022, two proposed orders to amend Schedule 1 of the Species at Risk Act (SARA) were published in Part I of the Canada Gazette. The proposed orders along with the Regulatory Impact Analysis Statements can be found on the Species at Risk Registry at the following address:

This marks the beginning of a 30-day public comment period during which you can share your comments on the proposal either by writing to mailto:[email protected] or calling 1 800 668-6767. The public comment period will end on Monday, June 27, 2022. 

The Minister of the Environment will take into consideration comments and any additional information received following these publications and make a listing recommendation for each species to the Governor in Council. After species are listed, recovery strategies must be published within one year for endangered species and within two years for threatened species.
