When: 2 seasons: April 1 – July 31 and May 1 – July 31, with
possible extension until August 31, 2025
Where: Boreal and foothills regions of Alberta
Salary: $3,300-$3,800 per month Full-time + overtime in the field
Duties: Technicians will be working with acoustic recording and camera
technology to survey vocalizing animals, small and large mammals, and
human noise disturbances in the Alberta wilderness. Duties include (not
limited to): equipment maintenance and preparation, data entry, and
processing audio and camera data. Applicants should be physically fit,
independent, problem-solvers, show attention to detail and have good
morale.
Applicants must:
● Be comfortable with off-trail hiking (5-10 km/day) on unstable ground,
steep slopes and in wetlands
● Be able to carry heavy loads (up to 40 lbs.)
● Tolerate inclement weather, biting insects, and early mornings (dawn)
● Be able to work alone in remote conditions
● Have an Alberta Class 5 driver's license or equivalent
● Standard First Aid and CPR C
Applicants with the following experiences and abilities will be preferred:
● A minimum of 1 year of experience working in remote conditions
● Ability to sustain camp life for long periods (cooking, cleaning, etc.)
● Experience driving 4×4 trucks, trailer hauling, and driving ATVs
● Ability to navigate using compass, maps, and GPS
Additional assets:
● Strong ATV skills in challenging terrain
● Previous camera trap work
● Wilderness First Aid certification
Accommodations & Schedule: Rustic camps, food, and travel is provided
during fieldwork. Applicants provide their own accommodations in Edmonton
during preparation periods. Expect to spend long periods of time in the field,
so having a flexible schedule is an asset.
