Basin Environmental Ltd. is a small environmental consulting company based out of Sherwood Park, Alberta. Basin offers environmental services to a diverse client base including oil and gas, transportation, land development, real-estate and telecommunication groups.

Currently we have an immediate opening for the following position:

Full-time Intermediate Environmental GIS Technician, Remote Position

Basin will provide you with a computer, capable of handling ArcGIS software, for your home-based office. A monthly allowance of $100 will be allocated for use of your office and a $75 allowance will be allocated for use of your personal cell phone.

Basin’s primary industry sectors include oil and gas, forestry, fishery, and land-use planning. This position will primarily include mapping environmental features, such as wetlands and watercourses. Previous environmental knowledge is required for this position. Responsibilities would include completing field preparation figures, utilizing various Alberta base spatial desktop resources, mapping the collected field data, creating various types of reporting figures, and working with LiDAR and aerial imagery.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in GIS-related field or equivalent work experience.  
  • Proficient working with ArcGIS ESRI products.
  • Knowledge of cartography and an understanding in map design.
  • Understanding of coordinate systems.
  • Work experience in Alberta’s oil and gas, forestry, fishery, or land-use planning.
  • Familiarity with GOA desktop spatial resources such as wildlife sensitivity layers, DEP, WAM, etc.
  • Experience in aerial wetland interpretation/delineation and familiarity with the Alberta Wetland Classification System.
  • Experience with ordering air photos from the Alberta Air Photo Library.
  • Familiarity with LiDAR and georeferencing.
  • Highly organized with the ability to successfully manage several projects simultaneously and accurately.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
