Junior Biologist – Permanent, Full-Time, Edmonton, Alberta 

Spencer Environmental Management Services Ltd., with over 40 years of experience supporting project design, construction, and operation, is seeking a motivated Junior Biologist to join our team. In this role, you will support environmental projects throughout their lifecycle, assisting with technical, health and safety, and regulatory tasks under the guidance of senior staff. The successful candidate will contribute to project efficiency by helping collect data, prepare deliverables, and manage timelines, while collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams. Success in this position is defined by your ability to support seamless project operations, ensure timely and accurate completion of assigned technical and compliance tasks, and actively participate in project processes and information management. This role emphasizes teamwork, attention to detail, documentation, and a willingness to learn and grow within a science-based, collaborative environment. 

Job Details:   

  • permanent, full-time (typically 40 hours/week with flexibility to respond to dynamic project needs) 
  • based in Edmonton (required) 
  • short-term travel to project sites throughout Alberta may be required 
  • targeted start date in April 2026 to be negotiated with successful candidate 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • undertake field assessments 
  • manage and analyse biophysical data, prepare technical reports and contribute to environmental assessments 
  • assist with environmental permit acquisition 

Demonstrated skills: 

  • technical skills in environmental assessment such as: wildlife habitat evaluation and monitoring, fisheries assessment, aquatic ecosystem studies, wetland delineation/classification, vegetation surveys, ecological mapping, soil assessments, water quality analysis, and/or permitting for environmental projects 
  • experience completing field programs in diverse ecological settings  
  • experience in preparing technical reports, environmental assessments, and regulatory submissions 
  • organized with strong attention to detail 
  • excellent interpersonal skills 
  • proven ability to adapt to changing project demands 
  • collaborative mindset with a strong desire to contribute to a science-based, team-oriented culture 

Qualifications: 

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in ecology, conservation biology, botany or related discipline, with 1-5 years of professional experience (equivalencies will be considered) 
  • eligible to work in Canada (i.e., Canadian citizen, Canadian permanent resident) 
  • eligibility to register for B.I.T./P. Biol. accreditation 
  • eligible to hold a valid Class 5 driver’s license, with no restrictions 
  • knowledgeable about Alberta landscapes and ecological regions 
  • experience working independently in field settings 
  • strong desire to contribute to science-based environmental management and successful project delivery as an integrated team member
