Environmental Specialist, Vegetation Ecologist

This a full-time position based out of our Cochrane or Calgary office starting in May 2024 (flexible start date).

Summary of Position:

CCI has an immediate opening for a Vegetation Ecologist whose primary focus will be to carry out baseline assessments, range management programs, riparian health assessments, wetland surveys, and other vegetation surveys. The positions primary focus will be in leading or assisting with planning and permitting projects and field monitoring programs. Having experience in other biophysical disciplines (such as wildlife and aquatics), reclamation assessments, and environmental planning and permitting would be a significant asset. Reporting to the Operations Manager, Regulatory and Environment, this position requires a self-motivated, safety conscious, passionate individual who takes great pride in their work.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in agriculture, biology, environmental science, reclamation or related field;
  • Registered Professional Agrologist or Professional Biologist in good standing;
  • Minimum of 3 full years of professional experience, capable of authenticating reports as a Qualified Professional;
  • Experience conducting biophysical, range management and other vascular plant inventories;
  • Knowledge of plant taxonomy, and general range management principles and practices;
  • Knowledge of reclamation practices, vegetation and soil assessment protocols and reclamation regulations;
  • Knowledge of the Alberta Wetland Classification System and associated surveys, applications, and reports;
  • Experience using various software, such as Word, Excel, ArcGIS and Esri-based field and office products;
  • Hold valid safety certifications;
  • Detailed oriented with solid organizational and time management skills;
  • Experience operating ATVs and other field equipment;
  • Experience loading and towing trailers, and driving 4 x 4 trucks;
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Drivers License; and
  • Strong technical writing skills.
