Summary:
Dr. Akhter's presentation will be a gentle introduction to chemical, ecological, and physiological concepts of phytoremedition, and provide thought-provoking consideration of the strengths and drawbacks of plants' ability to sequester, alter and redistribute metals in a variety of ecosystems.
Presenter:
The topic of phytoremediation is one that is near and dear to Dr. Akhter's heart and has informed much of her research career. Her work has ranged from examination of cadmium toxicity in human food crops to metal toxicity in natural and constructed wetlands in the Athabasca oil sands region.
