RIDGE is currently seeking a junior or intermediate fish and/or wildlife biologist who is are highly motivated to be a part of a growing organization, who are experienced, well organized, technically competent with a strong skill set of data collection and technical report writing. RIDGE is looking to fulfill the role of a Biologist/ Environmental Planner.  For this role, applicants are required to have the P. Bio or BIT designation who has wildlife & bird/nesting field related experience and is familiar with the relevant regulatory legislation. Additionally having the qualification to meet Alberta’s Qualified Aquatic Environmental Specialist (QAES) qualification is an asset.

Under the general supervision of the senior staff, you’re work would consist of primarily field work during the
summer along with a mix some office work, based in Calgary.
Fieldwork may include:
- Complete pre-disturbance Environmental Site Assessments.
- Complete pre-disturbance wildlife surveys.
- Conduct environmental monitoring of wildlife while on a construction site.
- Complete documentation of site activities, site health and safety meetings, and chain of custody forms.
- Completion of water quality monitoring.
- Assist with Fish Salvage operations.
- Complete field work to support Fish and Fish Habitat Evaluation and QAES reports and recommendations.

Office work may include:

- Assist with the development of project specific mitigation and monitoring plans.
- Assist in preparation of technical memos, letters, reports, and spreadsheets.
- Support the Team with regulatory applications under the Water Act, Public Lands Act, Federal Fisheries Act, and Wildlife Act.
- Complete and review contractor ECO Plan documents.

Qualifications:
- An undergraduate degree or technical diploma in environmental studies and/or biological sciences, or related field.
- Registered (or eligible) for Professional Biologist (RP.Bio or P.Biol.), Biologist in Training (BIT) or Registered
Biology Technologist (RB.Tech).
- Ready to work – have obtained field safety certificates including but not limited to: First Aid with CPR, H2S,
Ground Disturbance, WHIMS, and TDG.
- Crew lead electrofishing certification would be considered an asset.
- A valid driver’s licence and updated drivers abstract.

Experience and Skills:
- Electrofishing and fish salvage experience.
- Strong bird identification skills.
- Experience completing wildlife sweeps is considered an asset.
- A working understanding of provincial & federal environmental legislation, frameworks, policies and guidelines would be considered an asset.
- Experience working in the field for extended periods of time.
- Flexibility to travel on short notice to various locations in Alberta and Western Canada.
- Experience working and communicating effectively under high pressure situations.
- Strong technical report writing.
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and TEAMs.
- Interest in learning.
- Ability to assess problems and provide solutions.
- Strong work ethic with a genuine interest in environmental consulting and field work.- Experience collaborating and contributing as an active team player.
