Alberta Labour creates new Governance Branch

In an open letter to Alberta’s Professional Regulatory Organizations (PROs), Gosia Cichy-Weclaw (Executive Director, Newcomer Supports, at the Alberta Ministry of Labour) writes that Alberta Labour is “realigning its resources to get Albertans back to work and to ensure the recruitment, governance and compliance requirements for public agencies, board and commissions are fulfilled.”

Ms Cichy-Weclaw explains that a new Governance Branch has been created under the Corporate Services and Information (CSI) division led by Assistant Deputy Minister, Ms. Melissa Banks. This Branch will be responsible for professional legislation, public member appointments, public agencies and the Land Agents Licensing Unit.  The Professional Governance Unit, led by Acting Director, Mr. Wayne Williams, will be a component of the new Governance Branch.

As part of this realignment, Ms Cichy-Weclaw has moved to a new portfolio within the Workforce Strategies Division. This division will focus on providing employment and training programs and services for Albertans; she will continue to be responsible for the Domestic and International Labour Mobility, foreign qualification recognition and International Qualifications Assessment Service.
